EUROPHRAS conference Louvain-la-Neuve and News
Dear members of EUROPHRAS, dear colleagues,
our most recent conference in Louvain-la-Neuve was at the same time our first digital conference, and what a great success it was! Cher Jean-Pierre, merci beaucoup à toi et ton équipe pour la conference, ta competence et engagement et aussi pour avoir rester toujours calme! Merci et chapeau!!!
At the last General Assembly, I was elected President of the EUROPHRAS Society. I would like to thank you again for the trust you put in me. I look forward to being able to further develop our society, in collaboration with the executive board and the advisory council. I see it as both a great opportunity and a great challenge. I have always been impressed by the rich variety of topics and methods, the international diversity, the impressive connections our members have across diverse research communities, and the animated exchange of views and cherishing of personal relationships that are part of our society. These are aspects that I value highly and I would like to use my office to strengthen all of them, among other priorities. Allow me to briefly say something about my own self: I have been a member of EUROPHRAS since 2002 and I am a former treasurer of the society. As a historical linguist, I am particularly interested in historical formulaic language and the questions surrounding language change in this area as well as cultural-historical and corpus-linguistic approaches to historic formulaic language. For about a year now, I have held the chair in German Linguistics (with a focus on digital historical linguistics) at the University of Hamburg.
At this juncture, I would also like to thank my predecessor as president of EUROPHRAS, Kathrin Steyer, for her excellent work! It is due to her and her professional leadership that our society has made the impressive advances it has in recent years. Liebe Kathrin, ganz herzlichen Dank!
Dmitrij Dobrovol’skij left the board, having completed his full term of office, and the vacancy was filled by Erla Hallsteinsdóttir (previously a member of the Advisory Council). Similarly, Peter Ďurčo completed his full term of office as a member of the Advisory Council, and three new members of the Advisory Council were elected: Outi Lauhakangas, Mariangela Albano und Marios Chrissou. I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to Dmitrij Dobrovol’skij and Peter Ďurčo and would like to cordially welcome the new members of the board and advisory council. Many thanks for your willingness to strengthen the society through your membership of the board and council.
I am pleased, also, to be able to notify you that the board has named Andreas Buerki as the new vice-president of our society. Dear Andreas, many thanks to you also for your willingness to serve.
Last but not least: Our treasurer Christine Konecny would like to remind you in advance that the membership fees for the coming year 2022 will be due again at the end of November. In November, she will send a reminder with detailed information, but you are welcome to make the payment now (for the amount of the contribution and account details see http://www.europhras.org/de/europhras/mitgliedschaft). Thank you very much for your continued support of our society!
Kindest regards, also on behalf of the board and council,
Natalia Filatkina
President of EUROPHRAS
